Rethinking the Link Between Pavement Albedo and the Urban Heat Island Effect
Arizona State University examined the wide range of scientific research and literature regarding mitigation strategies utilized to combat the Urban Heat Island effect. The findings on albedo modification — the UHI mitigation strategy that use reflective surfaces to bounced solar energy back to the sky — shows several unintended consequences, including reflected energy being absorbed by people, vegetation, and buildings.
