Perpetual Pavement Award: By Design
The Asphalt Pavement Alliance developed the prestigious Perpetual Pavement awards to recognize long-life asphalt pavements in the U.S. and honor asphalt pavements demonstrating outstanding design and construction.
State agencies and road owners have recognized the value of owning Perpetual Pavements. Beginning August 1, the APA will accept nominations for roads that meet perpetual design. The nominations will be reviewed and approved by the National Center for Asphalt Technology and will receive the Perpetual Pavement by Design award.
The APA’s Perpetual Pavement Award program is proud to recognize newly designed and constructed asphalt roads built over new or reconditioned subgrade that meet Perpetual Pavement criteria. Congratulations to Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) for being the inaugural winner of this prestigious award! Winning agencies are honored by their local state asphalt pavement association and are presented with an engraved crystal obelisk.
“One of the keys to sustainability is long life,” said Amy Miller, P.E., National Director of the APA. “Asphalt roads can be engineered to last indefinitely with only routine maintenance and periodic surface renewal.”
